I realized I never posted these. These were for a Frankenstien environment piece that turned out worse than the thumbnails, so no one needs to see that one right now. ;]

Some Hand Painted Textures
So this semester I had to opportunity to take a texturing class from an awesome teacher. I didn't really really have much experience texturing objects for 3d games, so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. My teacher is a texturing artist at Carbine Studios, and emphasized hand painted textures, since that was her specialty. For those unfamiliar, hand painted textures are pretty much what they sound like—hand painted. This is often a big differences in the visual style of games, contributing the difference between games like Call of Duty (which use realistic/photo reference textures) and World of Warcraft.
I had no idea I would love hand painted textures so much. They are extremely time consuming, but it's very rewarding to see the end result in game. These are a few of the hand painted textures I made this semester in class (in order chronologically). I also have a few in the new tab at the top, so you should check that out! I don't know where this leaves me exactly as far as my specific career goal after school, but it definitely has opened some doors as far as my interests go.
Our teacher also was able to get us a tour of the studio, which was really awesome. It was so cool to be in the environment where all of these awesome artists are working on different parts of a project which will ultimately come together into an awesome game. It was also very cool to see how genuinely happy everyone was and how much fun they were having. It got me really pumped for my future. I posted a video of the game they're working on at the bottom, so that should definitely be checked out. The art style is really cool, sort of a blend between Disney and Blizzard, and something I could see myself happy to be working on.

I guess I'll post this one, just because.
Last Week's Environment Assignment.
I painted a little differently with this one. I don't think I'll do that again.
This was a project to design a new aspect for an existing game.
